Our MicroStrategy and BI Expert Jim Butz spoke at the Gartner IT Expo today on the power of augmented analytics. In short, he pushed that data and insights only matter if you can easily access them and if you have the ability to act on the insight. To that end, your business intelligence (BI) tools must enable that. He gave two demos that highlight the key use cases of accessibility and actionable. MicroStategy’s approach is to make it easy to embed insights in any channel and any application. Jim presented with Vijay Anand of MicroStrategy. Most organizations under-utilize their data because they fail to break down silos. There are three opportunities here: Empower more users with natural language generation. Help those who don’t understand data to build a dashboard with simple questions like, “What is my revenue?” Vijay showed a quick demo building a dashboard. He highlighted that with the easy integration from MicroStrategy, you can create an Alexa skill.

Predictive analytics vs AI Why the difference matters

Article | February 28, 2020

There are few movie scenes I can recall from my childhood, but I vividly remember seeing the 1968 Stanley Kubrick sci-fi movie 2001 A Space Odyssey in 1970 with my older cousin. What stays with me to this day is the scene where astronaut Dave asks HAL, the homicidal computer based on artificial intelligence (AI), to open the pod bay doors. HAL's eerie reply: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.In that moment, the concept of man vs. machine was created, predicated on the idea that machines created by man and using AI could (eventually) defy orders, position themselves in the vanguard, and overthrow humankind. Fast forward to today. Within the information governance space, there are two terms that have been used quite frequently in recent years analytics and AI. Often they are used interchangeably and are practically synonymous.
