Volt Active Data | January 18, 2023
On January 17, 2023, Volt Active Data, an emerging provider of in-memory database platforms to support applications that require consistency, speed, and scale, announced the unveiling of Active Streaming Decisions (Active(SD)™, an ultra high-speed decision-making engine, enabling companies to use the power of the Volt Active Data Platform to issues that other Kafka ecosystem solutions cannot solve.
With its foundation in the already combat-tested and proven Volt Active Data architecture, Active(SD) quickly utilize event data directly from Kafka topic areas as the data is generated and where the data is generated, leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning to reveal insights and make instantaneous, mission-critical decisions, which are then reverted back to Kafka so an action can be taken while the data (and resulting action) still remains appropriate.
Volt CEO David Flower said, "This is a tremendous opportunity for companies to finally be able to easily add intelligent decisioning to Kafka data streams and thereby fully capitalize on the massive amount of valuable data that Kafka streams into systems."

There are a number of ways to use data from Kafka for further processing down the line, such as loading it into a warehouse or data lake for offline processing and reporting. However, Active(SD) is the only product built specifically to optimize event-time, in-stream decisions in less than ten milliseconds to drive real-time actions consciously. This makes it the fastest way for Kafka-powered applications to go from event to action.
About Volt Active Data

Alation | January 31, 2023
On January 30, 2023, Alation Inc., a leading enterprise data intelligence solutions provider, announced the participation of three more universities in its philanthropic initiative, The Data Intelligence Project. The University of Cincinnati in Ohio, The University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas, and The University of Stirling in Scotland are among the new joining universities. So far, more than 420 students have employed Alation in their courses, with this year's worldwide cohort using Alation to provide real-world exposure to hundreds of new students.
Launched in 2021, the Data Intelligence Project creates a more data-literate, inquisitive, and rational society by fostering the next generation of data professionals. Alation, as part of The Data Intelligence Project, introduces its data intelligence platform into academic institutions for free and offers undergraduate and graduate students a hands-on learning experience utilizing a collaborative data catalog.
Through this program students and professors get access to Alation guest speakers with subject matter knowledge and presentation topics covering analytics, data science, data intelligence, IT, engineering, and more. In addition, Alation University provides students with access to high-quality training materials to assist them in mastering technical skills and utilizing the data catalog.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, one of the program's early participants, is now in its third year of the program, and it is continuing to experience success in educating the next generation of data professionals. It is used by the institution to encourage students' interest in data intelligence and to provide emerging leaders with the tools they need to succeed in their careers.
In addition to enhancing existing engineering courses, the program increases students' marketability to the more than 450 firms that use Alation to seek job opportunities. Cisco, AbbVie, General Mills, Munich Re, Hertz, NASDAQ, Pfizer, Riot Games, Raiffeisen Bank, Salesforce, The Very Group, The University of Virginia, Vattenfall, Virgin Australia, and others are among Alation's customers.
This year, the program welcomed the first foreign university, The University of Stirling in Scotland, and will continue expanding globally. Alation will choose up to four additional academic institutions to join in The Data Intelligence Project in 2023.

WANdisco | January 20, 2023
On January 19, 2023, WANdisco, a data activation company, announced the launching of its Data Activation Platform 2.0 to enable faster migrations of massive datasets. Leveraging both the WANdisco Data Migrator and Edge to Cloud technologies, the updates enhance the speed and scalability of on-premises and edge data transfers through high precision control over migration throughput, prioritization, and cleanup, among other capabilities. In addition, the updates improve data movement performance from Hadoop environments and IoT sensor data to any cloud, boosting the commercial value of data regardless of where it resides.
Organizations maintain a complicated data web that spans numerous storage environments with channels that connect to multiple clouds. According to IDC, businesses store data across five primary domains, but mostly in on-premises, edge locations, and public cloud.
Furthermore, 69% of data leaders are unable to use their data due to lengthy timelines, high costs, and risk of data transfers between environments, as per the 2022 State of Data Activation report. Multi-cloud strategies, in which organizations use artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and analytics capabilities of different clouds for distinct use cases, add to this complexity.
Data Activation Platform 2.0 offers granular control over all or selective data transfers within a streamlined user interface. New automated tools optimize migration and storage resources across environments, with the goal of increasing the speed at which large-scale datasets can be migrated to any cloud.
David Richards, CEO and Founder of WANdisco, said, "Businesses face a dizzying challenge in moving massive amounts of data from a lot of sources to a lot of targets. As data continues to amass at the edge and on-premises at an unprecedented pace, solutions must improve to handle massive data transfers at incredible speeds – but also deliver a seamless experience." He further added, "Data Activation Platform 2.0 does just that. Now enterprises will have even greater control over all, or specific, data transfers happening across their business."
