‘Kensho NERD’, Kensho’s New Text Analysis Product Launched
Shaivi Chapalgaonkar | March 22, 2021
Kensho NERD, a machine learning system, was launched this week by Kensho. This system can release the full potential of textual data by finding objects referred to in documents, newsfeeds, or any other text and linking each to a matching database.
NERD, or Named Entity Recognition and Disambiguation, was developed by Kensho’s Natural Language Processing team, which focuses on machine learning research and engineering related to analyzing and understanding human language. This system is one of the landmark inventions the team has created to gain insight and form textual data at such a scale.
NERD will immediately be used internally and externally at a business level processing millions of pages of text in a day. This text processing will strongly influence smart search and augmented research workflows throughout its worldwide customer base.
Vital functions of Kensho’s NERD:
With AI-enabled context awareness, NERD can determine the vague entities, manage abbreviations, acronyms, aliases, and historical names.
Users can now:
• Tag and analyze and businesses, subsidiaries, and other financial organizations appearing in text-based data
• Link those entries in the S&P Global Capital IQ database to form new connections and generate in-depth insights
• Connect people, places, and events to expansive databases that contain around 100 million data items which provided extensive analysis across domains
NERD can be merged with Kensho’s other AI services like Kensho Link that unites unstructured data to S&P Global’s company database; and Kensho scribe, a superior financial audio transcription tool to contribute to downstream analytics.
S&P Global’s Kensho is the AI Innovation Hub. They develop pioneering technologies to transform businesses. Kensho has headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts with offices in New York and Washington DC. S&P Global acquired Kensho in 2018 and it continues to operate as a separate entity while maintaining its brand and culture.
