Amazon debuts its autonomous robot courier

Amazon has announced that it is debuting its brand-new courier, a six-wheeled autonomous delivery robot which navigates sidewalks to deliver orders straight to a customer's door named "Amazon Scout". The devices, which Amazon has been working on for some time now, are about the size of a cooler and travel – or "roll" – along sidewalks at a walking pace. They began delivering packages to customers in a neighbourhood in Snohomish County, Washington, on January 23. Amazon Scout is the latest in a number of technologies the company has been investing in of late to optimize its last-mile solutions. It has also been working on developing Prime Air, an air drone delivery service that aims to deliver packages in 30 minutes and has so far been tested in the UK.
