Facebook introduces ads rules for 2019 elections

Facebook will extend a number of its political advertising rules and tools for curbing election interference to India, Nigeria, Ukraine and the EU ahead of votes taking place in the coming months, according to a Reuters report. From Wednesday in Nigeria, only advertisers located in the West African state will be able to run electoral ads ahead of its presidential election on February 16, revealed Facebook director of global politics and outreach Katie Harbath in an interview with Reuters. The same policy is expected to take effect in Ukraine in February ahead of its presidential election on March 31. Rob Leathern, a director of product management at Facebook, told Reuters that Facebook would place electoral ads in a searchable online library from February ahead of the 2019 Indian general election which takes place between April and May.
