Data Science and Cryptocurrencies

This paper investigates the various applications of machine learning, econometrics, and general data science within the cryptocurrency space. Specifically, we investigate the potential insights data-driven analysis may provide the cryptocurrency industry in both the current and future environments. Although the industry is still in its infancy, we predict returns from data-driven analysis in market finance, legislative policy, and online content management. The official start of the cryptocurrency industry is difficult to precisely define, but the most reasonable starting point seems to be with the introduction of Bitcoin in 2008 (1). Since then, interest in cryptocurrencies has grown dramatically.
