Data is simply information. Information in business is facts about any aspect of business that can be used to help make better decisions. This includes information about products and services, customers and prospects, competition and stakeholders as well as the external macro environment. The process of collection and analysis of this data has been problematic before the advent of digitization. Lack of precision, timeliness and subjectivity bias were key issues in data collection, while computing capability and response time were barriers to useful analysis.
