How Big Data Can Be Used To Slow Coronavirus Outbreak

Despite its proximity to China, Taiwan has currently fewer than 100 cases of coronavirus. The credit for this small number goes to the emergency use of big data analytics to compile a database of those who were likely to carry the virus, and where they contracted it.
Early on, Taiwan restricted entry to the island from those traveling from regions that were most heavily affected by the outbreak. Then, the government asked foreign visitors to scan a QR code that would give them a health declaration form to fill out with their contact information and any symptoms they may be experiencing. Individuals who were placed in high-risk groups received government care while in Taiwan.
